The History of Soap Making

The first evidence of soap making dates from the ancient world, around 2800 BC Archaeologists found clay cylinders left by the Mesopotamian civilization that had been covered with a soap-like substance inside. Once the archeologists deciphered the inscriptions on the cylinders, they were surprised to find a description of fats being boiled with ashes – the basic method of making soap. Intriguingly, these early cylinders did not describe what this soap-like substance was used for, and so archeologists are left to guess.

As in Mesopotamia, so too did archaeologists find Pharaonic artifacts that attest to ways to make soap. A medical text written on papyrus, the Ebers Papyrus dating to 1500, outlines a method to combine animal and vegetable fats with alkaline salts. The resulting soap-like material could have been used for bathing, or as a topical treatment for skin diseases. Biblical evidences suggest that a third ancient civilization, the Israelites, knew how to mix ashes and vegetable oils to produce something a great deal like hair gel. By the second century AD, Alexandria's famous physician, Galens, recommended that his patients use soap as a topical ointment, as well as to keep clean.

The Mediterranean civilizations – Greece and Rome – preferred to wash without soap, but they learned about soap form the people they colonized. Pompeii's ruins included a soap factory, complete with a batch of soap. Both Greeks and Romans cleaned their bodies by rubbing them with oil, and then scrapping the oil off with metal instruments or pumice stones. Ancient Germans and the Gauls made their own soap out from ashes mixed with animal fat, and they used it to decorate their hair.

Europeans started to use soap to clean their bodies in the Renaissance, and once soap came to be widely used for personal cleanliness, its chemical formula did not change much. The soap made by the American colonists (that you can watch made at any open-air museum) is much the same soap that has been made since the Renaissance. The person making soap would collect lye by dripping water through wood ashes, and then mix the resulting lye with animal or vegetable fat to make soap.

Natural Hair Care Products For Healthy Living

Natural hair care products that are free from SLS, Pegs and sulphates are in big demand. Hair care is going au natural, featuring of herbal ingredients and natural oils. Herbal shampoos and conditioners promise to keep hair healthy and do not strip away natural oils that protect them. Organic hair care is the new wave of hair product to enter the hair market.

Although many would swear by the more commercial brands as being more effective, there are those who are happy to sacrifice foam for ferns! Natural hair care made with herbs and butters, essential oils and aromatic waters will not foam as more mainstream product would do. The natural detergents are much gentler on the hair and may not lather as well but rest assured they cleanse just as thoroughly and do not strip the hair of its natural oils which are the best part.

Cold pressed and unrefined oils wherever nut oils, seed oils, flower oils and more, seem also to be a huge demand for both hair and skin care. This is massed three to four times a week into the scalp and left overnight or even for a few days to nourish and replenish the hair and scalp. Jojoba oil is wonderful oil for hair too, and is particularly popular for Afro hair, as is Shea butter.

The Really Good Hair oil has been formulated with an effective blend of five nourishing oils. It contains the well-known Argan and Virgin Coconut oils known for their hair strengthening properties. This has been blended with the vitamin E rich Avocado oil and Sweet Almond oil to replenish and restore its shine and moisture.

The most important herb in this blend is the Ayurvedic triple infused herb Brahmi and Neem. Brahmi is very rich in antioxidants and helps boost hair growth and hair discolouration. Brahmi is able to nourish the hair roots and promote healthy growth and Neem will promote a healthyier scalp and is extremely beneficial for thinning hair. Fragrances like the gorgeous Indian Jasmine essential oil, the Really Good Hair oil is a superb combination of the very best oils are used to ensure your hair is left beautifully conditioned, healthy and stronger.

The process of massaging the oil into the hair is also most important as this is where you can help stimulate hair growth and rejuvenate the hair follicles. Indian head massage is a treatment where the masseuse applications oils for you and is part of many spa menus these days. Whilst massaging hair oil, be sure to part your hair and distribute the oil equally to all parts of the scalp, from the back to the crown and to the temples. Another great tip is to wrap a steaming hot towel around the head; this opens the follicles and the oil seeps in deeply. Warm oil is also preferred to cold oil as this sinks into the skin much more easily and provides a very therapeutic sensation too.

Tattoo Care – 5 Tips For Proper Aftercare of a New Tattoo

The best advice I can offer on how to properly care for a new tattoo is NOT TO USE LOTION ON A FRESH TATTOO! Most tattoo artists advise their clients to use a rich ointment for the first few days of healing, followed by unscented, colorless lotions to keep the skin moisturized, protected, and prevent color fading. These lotions are reliably cheap and available at your local drugstore. However, almost all of these lotions contain ingredients that are recently proven to be more harmful than beneficial for tattoo health. Here are 5 tips for tattoo aftercare:

1. Gently Cleanse, Stay out of the sun, and away from heat- During the healing and aftercare process, which may take several weeks, gently cleanse the tattoo daily with fragrance-free, anti-bacterial body soap and luke warm water. For the first few days, no sun, swimming, sweating, or dirt. Keep your tattoo dry and clean. For the first 24 hours, try to ice the tattoo as often as you can, this will help reduce inflammation and also help with the pain.

2. Only oil or oil-based ointment for first 3 days- It is advised by some not to use lotion at all for the first few days because of the high risk of infection. However, there are safe, natural products that are very effective and actually speed up the healing process. For immediate tattoo aftercare, look for a light, oil-based product containing hemp seed oil, tea tree oil, aloe vera, and jojoba oil.

Tea tree oil has anti-inflammatory anti-bacterial, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral properties. It is a very effective remedy against countless skin ailments, infections, cuts, scrapes, burns, insect bites and skin spots etc. Using tea tree oil combined with hemp seed oil will provide rich omega 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids. Using these oils will lightly moisturize, protect, and heal the skin without causing irritation or color loss.

3. Avoid plasma crusting on tattoo- For the first day, your tattoo will see a clear liquid called plasma. Try not to let this crust on your skin, but if it does, gently wash it off with warm water.

4. After first 3 days, keep skin moisturized with all natural lotion- Keeping the skin hydrated during the peeling process and long after will help with itchiness, flakiness, and preserving the richness of your tattoo color. Like I said before, beware of lotions that contain harmful ingredients such as ethanol or petroleum. Instead use a lotion that is rich in fatty acids for free radical protection and non-greasy hydration. Hemp seed lotions are the best for this.

Hemp seed oil is rich in omega 3, 6, and 9 and it is easily absorbed into the skin. Hemp contains anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties that are healthy and non-irritating to the skin. Continue to use a hemp seed oil lotion long after your tattoo is cured and enjoy longer, truer tattoo color and skin health.

5. Watch the ingredients- Lanolin is an ingredient some will use, and lanolin causes allergic reactions in a lot of people. Lanolin is the natural oil that comes from sheep's wool. Some tattoo aftercare also contain products such as bee's wax or petroleum, which can clog pores and contain contaminants. These ingredients are widely popular in over-the-counter creams and lotions because they are cheap and easy to manufacture. The lanolin and mineral oil found in these lotions cause excess seeping, clogging, scabbing, scarring and color loss. Stay away from products that contain mineral oil, dyes, propylene glycol, or parabens.

Earthly Body's Tattoo Tonic preserves tattoo color, is non-fading, vegan, and free of petroleum, lanolin, and paraben. Works wonders on healing piercings as well.

Nu Skin – A Great Business Opportunity Or Just Another Pretty Face?

Nu Skin – It’s Ageless

An interesting company in that it markets a diverse mix of product lines, Nu Skin currently operates in 48 worldwide markets. Their product offerings include personal care products sold under the Nu Skin brand, nutritional supplements sold under the Pharmanex brand, and the Big Planet brand, a line of products that provides services to preserve, organize, share, and enjoy your photos and home movies. The company was founded by Blake Roney, his sister Nedra Roney, and friend Sandie Tillotson, and celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2009.

As with many companies, although it makes it no less admirable, Nu Skin includes charitable work as part of its mix. They provide meal packs (Vita Mix) that are designed for donation purposes to starving areas all over the world.

One of the top key items marketed by Nu Skin is the Galvanic Spa II system, which retails for approximately $350. The System is a programmable Galvanic Spa(TM) II Instrument with patented self-adjusting galvanic currents and interchangeable heads-for the face, scalp, and body-and works synergistically with specially formulated products to facilitate the transport of key ingredients for optimal performance. It is considered to be the closest to a spa treatment that can be obtained for use at home. Nu Skin has about six products designed to be used with the Galvanic Spa II System, with retail prices between $32 and $60.

There are billions of dollars being spent every year in the beauty industry, not to mention all the money spent at spas and for spa products. Nu Skin is in a great position to capitalize on this ever-increasing market segment. However, most of the information provided by Nu Skin to its distributors is along the lines of product usage, and not on how to actually market and sell their products.

How could it be possible to go wrong with Nu Skin, with both personal and financial benefits to be gained? The issue is not with the products themselves, but with the lack of training on how to properly market the wonderful products. The companies system works basically like any other network marketing company: focusing more on recruiting distributors rather than providing training consultants with good marketing skills. This is where company really has failed, and neglected a golden opportunity.

My advice, if you are looking into Nu Skin, would be to really scrutinize your sponsor before signing up. Will he or she be there to train you on how to properly use the products? What training methods does the company support? The Galvanic Spa II does take some time to master before you can demonstrate it on a potential customer.

Also, how up-to-date are they in new marketing mediums? The old days of marketing only to friends and family are a thing of the past. Like any business in this world, you need to put at least as much time into learning how to properly market your business as you do working your business. If not your odds of success will be little to none.

Go in with your eyes wide open. This is a new day in marketing, and it is constantly changing. If you want a successful business, treat it like a business. Arm yourself with all the skills beforehand, keep current, put in the time, and then enjoy the fruits of your labor!
